Division Home > Research > Faculty Research Faculty Research Faculty and researchers seek to understand our world from the smallest particles to the total universe. The problems that we work on impact our lives from health and the environment to developments in technology. Research units exist at several institutional levels in the Physical and Biological Sciences Division. Faculty work together across disciplines, across divisions, and across campuses to facilitate multidisciplinary research, enhance collaborations with industry and external research sites, and capitalize on research and funding opportunities. The distinguished faculty include 14 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 9 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 2 members of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine, 13 fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and 3 members of the American Philosophical Society. Three faculty are listed in the 2002 edition of Discover Magazine’s “Top 50 Women Scientists.” Four faculty in the division are among the most highly cited researchers in their fields according to the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), a key measure of influence in science and technology.
