Academic Support

UC Santa Cruz works to provide the broadest possible access to a top-quality, affordable education.

Academic Excellence Program (ACE) is designed to increase the diversity of UCSC graduates in mathematics and sciences. Awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring ACE offers workshop-style discussion sections and academic peer mentoring for math and science courses.

California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) program is part of a statewide initiative that supports and encourages undergraduates from underrepresented minorities to complete the B.S. degree in a science, engineering, or math discipline. CAMP programs motivate participants through cooperative learning, internships, faculty mentored research, and travel to professional conferences.

California Teach is a new systemwide program designed to increase the pool of highly qualified K-12 teachers of mathematics and science. The program provides opportunities for undergraduate science, math, and engineering majors to explore K-12 teaching as a career through paid supervised internships in K-12 classrooms, rigorous academic preparation in their major, and simultaneous study of educational theory, research, and practice. Students who complete all aspects of the program will be prepared for paid teaching positions as "university interns" upon graduation.

Health Science Career Advising program supports all students who are interested in pursuing further education in the health sciences.

Minority Access to Research Careers and Initiative for Minority Student Development (MARC/IMSD) programs give targeted minority students an opportunity to gain experience in laboratory research and have close exposure to the world of academic science.

Monterey Bay Regional Studies Program - Using an interdisciplinary approach, faculty and graduate students in the natural and social sciences are working together to understand the dynamic processes and tensions of the Monterey Bay region--an understanding that can be extended to worldwide environmental and social change and development.
